Journal of Medical Robotics Research (JMRR) seeks articles for a Special Issue on Image-guided Intelligent Interventions. There has been significant research in the past few years on integrating multimodal image-guidance with intelligent instrumentation and robotics to provide context-specific information to the interventionalist while improving the precision and accuracy of the procedures. We are now at a point where such intelligent image-guidance is becoming a reality. The goal of this special issue is to highlight the technical and clinical challenges in designing and developing systems and algorithms for enabling image-guided intelligent interventions.

Aims and Scope

Some of the topics of the special issue include:

1. Image-guided Robotics
2. Image-based planning and targeting
3. Clinical workflow analysis
4. System integration — software framework including middleware, hardware/software interface, and communication protocol
5. Registration and calibration
6. Surgical Navigation
7. Image servoing and guidance
8. Sensor fusion
9. Machine learning and decision-systems
10. Novel real-time imaging
11. User experience
12. Validation
13. Clinical trials

Before submission, authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at - http://www.worldscientific.com/page/jmrr/submission-guidelines.

Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the Editorial Manager at - http://www.editorialmanager.com/jmrr/login.asp according to the following timetable:

Manuscript Due: July 15, 2015
First Round of Reviews: September 15, 2015
Revisions Due: October 15, 2015
Manuscript Decisions: November 15, 2015
Publication Date: January 15, 2016

With over 2 decades history, more than 2.000 systems installed worldwide and over 200.000 interventions conducted per annum; the field of robotic surgery is considered well-established. Despite these impressive figures and increasing popularity in research labs all over the world, the list of technological advances that made it into the operating room (OR) during this last decade is fairly limited. Long expected techniques such as 3D reconstruction, motion compensation, virtual guidance, haptic feedback, under study in many labs all over the planet did not make their appearance into the market yet.
